Dr. Maria Pavlatou is an Endocrinologist – Diabetologist with extensive postgraduate training in the USA and comprehensive professional experience at the world’s leading research hospital National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other world-class hospitals in the USA and England.
In 2001 she graduated from the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace, and in 2008 she became a Doctor of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
She was trained through a US government scholarship and worked alongside leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Perinatology Research Branch of NICHD/NIH at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Subsequently, she was awarded the UEMS European Exchange in Endocrinology Expertise Fellowship and worked as Consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Internal Medicine for the National Health Service (NHS) in England at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital & General Hospital (Newcastle Hospitals), William Harvey Hospital (East Kent) and James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough).
In 2018 she received a tenure offer to the post of Consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Internal Medicine at St. James’s University Hospital (Leeds) and in 2019 she decided to return and offer her services in Greece.
Since 2019, she has been Director of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Athens Medical Center.
Her goal is to practice of modern, evidence-based medicine, in order to help Greece to adopt and implement the latest developments and most advanced scientific knowledge in Endocrinology.
