Gastrinoma

Gastrinoma is a neuroendocrine pancreatic tumour that produces the hormone gastrin. Gastrin stimulates the secretion of acid from the stomach in order to achieve digestion of food. Increased secretion of gastrin by the tumour, however, leads to an increased amount of gastric acid which causes: Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and is characterized by:

• recurrent peptic ulcers
• abdominal and stomach pain
